2017 DECLARED ‘YEAR OF THE DOGS’
The Truhlars (Doris and Bob both – something upon which they can agree) have declared 2017 “Year of the Dogs.” The Truhlars really love dogs, and currently have a much-treasured Miniature Pincher. Her name is “Wrigley.” She is named for Wrigley Field, Chicago, home of Bob’s treasured Cubs. Wrigley is 14 years old, and going strong.
The dog was named by the Truhlars’ youngest daughter, Holly, who bought the dog at a pet store when Holly was in college. She thought naming the dog for her father’s favorite professional sports team would gain points for her and for the dog with her father. It did.
Doris tells a story about Bob watching the seventh game of the 2016 World Series. Bob was screaming at the television. “You CAN’T do that. DON’T take that pitcher out.” He had to be banned from watching for a while. The rain delay calmed his nerves. All was well that ended well, and the Cubs became the World Champions.
Abby has a 11-year-old beagle named Brady. Abby’s husband, Tyler, got Brady from the Dumb Friends League Buddy Center for Abby for Christmas in 2007 because he was working nights and he didn’t want her to be home alone. Abby’s 4-year-old daughter, Kate, loves Brady and he is so sweet with her. He travels daily to “Nana Daycare” with Kate (Abby’s mother watches Kate while Abby and Tyler work). When Kate was first learning to talk, she called Brady “Buh” and the name stuck as his nickname. Brady recently stayed at home with Tyler while Abby, Nana and Kate took their annual Disney trip, this year to Disneyland in California. It was a wonderful trip with lots of memories.
Cathy is the proud aunt to a spunky 10-year-old Shi-Tzu named “Butters.” Her mom and Cathy are childhood friends. She recently moved from Austin, Texas to Denver with her parents. She still hesitates to venture outside when it snows, but is an avid chaser of the squirrels and bunnies who frequently visit her backyard. She has no shame and will often steal the comfiest spot on the couch.
Amanda is the proud mom to Luca, a three-year-old Labradoodle. Amanda and fiancé, Michael, got Luca as a small puppy. Amanda belongs to a Facebook group with owners of other dogs born to the same “birth mom” as Luca. She enjoys staying up-to-date with Luca’s brothers and sisters. Luca, along with all of Amanda’s friends and family, is excited for his parents’ wedding in late September!
Truhlar and Truhlar has a new face at the front desk! Diane Alvarado joined us a few months ago as our receptionist and administrative assistant. She is a joy to have around the office and is a very hard worker. We are so glad to have her with us! Diane and her husband and daughter are in the process of purchasing a Mexican Hairless Dog.
Doris, who serves as a City Councilwoman on the Centennial City Council, is running for re-election this year. She is in her fourth year on the Council. So far, she does not have an opponent.
The Truhlars are in a “new” house. Actually it is not new, as it was built in 1960, but it is a ranch-style home, three bedrooms, two baths, in Palos Verdes Subdivision where they previously lived and raised their four children. Bob loved the above-average moisture (both rain and snow) in May so far. It watered their big green lawn. Bob is also enjoying month five of his dream car, which is a Subaru Forester. It is great for hauling boxes of client files to and from storage. He can’t help but show every new passenger the “eyesight” lane detection safety warnings.
On a legal note, Bob recently presented for the Colorado Bar Association Continuing Legal Education on the topic of Employment at Will. A published article on the same topic will follow soon.
All of us at Truhlar and Truhlar, L.L.P. wish you a wonderful summer!
